Ames

March 31, 2-3 p.m. — The Ames Auxiliary will hold an Easter egg hunt. Refreshments will be served and prizes will be handed out to everyone. A coloring contest will also take place. Pick up a coloring page available at the Ames Volunteer Fire Department. Meet at the ball field behind the Ames Museum.

Canajoharie

March 31, 7 p.m. — Amy Gallatin and Stillwaters will present their mix of bluegrass, folk and western swing at the Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library, 2 Erie Blvd. in Canajoharie, NY. The performance, a part of the Canajoharie Concert Series, is funded, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts.

Tickets for the performance in Canajoharie, which are $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 10-17 by advance sale, are available by calling the Arkell Museum at Canajoharie at (518) 673-2314. Tickets at the door will be $8 for adults and $4 for children.

Arkell Center

Daily activities taking place at Arkell Center during the month of March 2012 will be as follows:

Monday through Friday — Noon meals are provided by the Meals of Montgomery Program (M.O.M.). Reservations are required by noon of the previous day.

Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.- 12 Noon — Winter Indoor Walking Program will continue.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:15-11 a.m. — Senior’s Exercise Program, with Bob Smith, will take place.

Wednesday, 3:00-4:00 p.m. — Gentle Yoga for seniors will be held with instructor, Sylvia Wolhgemuth.

Special Events

April 29, 1:30 p.m. — A public card party will be held. Donation is $2 with prizes and refreshments. Note that this now takes place on Wednesday.

March 30, 12:45 p.m. — The Canajoharie Senior Citizens Club meeting will take place.

Fort Plain

March 30, 7 p.m., March 31, 2 and 7 p.m. —  The Fort Plain Drama Club will present “The Fantasticks” at Fort Plain Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium. “The Fantasticks” features music and lyrics by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones. The show made its Broadway debut in 1960. It is considered the world’s longest running musical, having shown for 42 years. Admission is $5 at the door.

March 31, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. — A book sale will take place at the Fort Plain Reformed Church, 161 Canal St., Fort Plain. For sale will be used books, dvd’s and cd’s, all in good condition. Coffee, tea and finger foods will be available for purchase.

March 31, 10 a.m. — The Central Mohawk Valley Lions Club will be sponsoring their thirty-seventh annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children of the community. The hunt will take place at Haslett Park in Fort Plain, with April 7 being the rain date at the same time and location. There will be two different hiding areas for the eggs based on age. This helps to give everyone a chance to find at least one egg. For more information contact King Lion Jeff Jones at (518) 993-5333 or any Lions Club member.

April 3, 4-8 p.m. — A benefit for the Canajoharie High School Band will be held at Dome49, 49 Hancock St. Spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and drinks will be served. $9 per ticket, eat-in or take-out.

April 21, 9 a.m.-Noon — A rabies vaccination clinic will be held at the Palatine Town Barn located on Stone Arabia Rd. in Fort Plain for dogs, cats and ferrets. Pet owners should bring proof of their pet’s last rabies vaccination. This helps the veterinarian determine whether the pet will receive a one or three year vaccination. Without it your pet will receive a one year vaccination only. To assure the safety of other pets and people, dogs must be leashed. Cats and ferrets must be contained in a pet carrier or box when attending the rabies clinic. Veterinarian administration fee is $10 per rabies vaccine. Distemper shots will be available at an additional fee. For more information about rabies contact Montgomery County Public Health at (518) 853-3531.

April 29 — The first of the Mohawk Valley Schooling Horse Show Series will be held at the Great Vista Farm located on 556 Paris Rd. in Fort Plain. This one-day show will feature beginners through advanced classes with Walk-Trot through three ft. jumpers. Entry fee is $15 a class. Stabling is available. Mondays, 7-8 p.m. — AA meeting will be held at the Fort Plain Senior Center. Call (518) 993-2031 for details.

Mondays, 7-8:30 p.m. — Fort Plain’s Mayor Guy Barton will hold a weekly “Meet With The Mayor” session at the Village Hall, 168 Canal St. During the weekly gathering, which members of the public are encouraged to attend, Mayor Barton will discuss the future of Fort Plain. He will also answer questions pertaining to the village.

Tuesdays, 10-11 a.m. — The Lotus Center for Wellness and Self Care will be offering yoga sessions at 9 Center St. Call 993-9904 for more information. The center is open Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Every other Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. — The Fort Plain Senior Center holds a pinochle tournament with prizes, sandwiches, cake and ice cream. For those of you who do not know the game of pinochle, come in any week day morning and lessons will be available. More players are always welcome. The game is easy and fun. 2nd Thursday of each month the Fort Plain Community Activity Council will meet at the Village Hall at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Fort Plain Village Planning Board will hold its regular meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

March 30, 8:30 a.m. — A spring bake sale will take place at the Palatine Bridge NBT Bank lobby to benefit the Marshville Evangelical Church.

St. Johnsville

March 30-31, 7 p.m. — The St. Johnsville Drama Club presents “A Hillbilly Weddin” by LeRoma Greth, a Heuer Publishing production. Curtain time is 7 p.m. at the St. Johnsville High School auditorium. The public is invited to attend. Admission will be charged at the door.

April 1, 8:30-10 a.m. — A Palm Sunday children’s breakfast will be held at St. John’s Reformed Church Fellowship Hall located at 68 West Main St. in St. Johnsville. Although the whole community is invited, parents and grandparents are invited to treat their children to breakfast which consists of pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and beverage. April 5, 11 a.m. — The Town of St. Johnsville will hold a special meeting to open requests for proposals for revaluation. The meeting will be held at the Town Offices, 7431 St. Hwy. 5 in St. Johnsville. For any questions contact Lynn Stever, Town Clerk, at (518) 568-2662.

April 15, 8 a.m. — The Margaret Reaney Memorial Library will hold Flapjacks and Fairytales, a pancake breakfast and theme basket raffle to benefit the MRML. Flapjacks and Fairytales will be held at the H.C. Smith Benefit Club. Breakfast will be served beginning at 8 a.m., and includes pancakes, eggs, home fries, sausage, sausage gravy, applesauce and beverages. As has become tradition, the breakfast will also feature homemade Mary Finch biscuits, real butter and real maple syrup.

Stone Arabia

April 4, 7 p.m. — Special Music, piano and flute duets at Trinity Lutheran Church, Route 10 in Stone Arabia, during Wednesday evening service. In keeping with the church tradition, homemade pies will be served following the service.
