Ames

June 9, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. — The Ames Museum, located on Latimer Hill Road in Ames, will host Ames Museum Appreciation Day. The museum will be open and lunch will be available next door at Ames Sprout Brook United Methodist Church. The children also will have a lemonade stand. More things are planned so save the date. Canajoharie

May 24, 4-9 p.m. — The Dependents, a band consisting primarily of Fort Plain Central School District students, will release their debut album “Dry Cereal” during a record release show at the Elephant Bistro.

May 24, 7 p.m. — The Canajoharie Central School Board of Education will hold a meeting in the high school conference room.

May 25-27 — Canajoharie will hold village-wide garage sales again this year from May 25-27. People holding sales do not need to register. Also, no maps will be available this year.

May 26, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. — The Canajoharie High School Band will hold a fundraiser to earn money for their trip to the 2013 Music in the Parks event. The fundraiser will feature a car wash, bottle drive and barbecue, including hamburgers and hot dogs, and will be held at Ace Hardware, Palatine Bridge.

May 26-27, 1-5 p.m. — Help support the Canajoharie Library by shopping at their huge Spring Used Book Sale in the Canajoharie Library Basement. The library will open three hours early on Saturday for this special event. A limited selection of home goods will be for sale outside the front entrance as well. The Library is located at 2 Erie Boulevard, Canajoharie. June 3, 7 p.m. — The Valley Choralaires invite the public to attend their spring concert, “A Medley of Music” in the Canajoharie United Methodist Church at 50 East Main Street. There is no charge to attend the concert, but a free will offering will be accepted. Free refreshments will be offered after the concert.

Arkell Center

Daily activities taking place at Arkell Center during the month of May 2012 will be as follows:

Monday through Friday — Noon meals are provided by the Meals of Montgomery Program (M.O.M.). Reservations are required by noon of the previous day. Call 673-2000. Suggested donation if $3 for those 60 years of age or older.

Wednesday, 3-4 p.m. — Gentle Yoga for seniors will be held with instructor, Sylvia Wolhgemuth.

Thursday-May 3, 10, 17 and 31, 2-4 p.m. — Second Time Around Big Band practice will be held.

Special Events

May 25, 1:30 p.m. — Tom Conley, from Financial Services at NBT Bank, will be discussing “Supplemental Income” at the Senior Citizens Club meeting. All seniors are welcome.

May 30, 1-2:30 p.m. — Karen Britt from the Alzheimers Association, will present “Know the 10 Signs”, early detection matters. Register at 1-800-272-3900. Open to the public.

Meetings

May 24, 2-3 p.m. — Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregivers Support Group meeting will take place with Lisa Hubbard. This service is sponsored by the Alzheimers Association of Northeastern, NY.

May 25, 1 p.m. — Canajoharie Sr. Citizens Club meeting will take place.

Special Trips

June 21, 9:30 a.m. — Mac-Haydn Theatre-Brigadon trip will take place leaving from the Dutchtown Plaza. Senior Citizen Club members are $43; Non-members are $48 and includes lunch. Call Dorothy at (518) 673-5588 if interested by June 1.

Fort Plain

May 31, 7 p.m. — The Village Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 168 Canal St. in Fort Plain.

Weekly Events

Mondays, 7-8 p.m. — AA meeting will be held at the Fort Plain Senior Center. Call (518) 993-2031 for details.

Mondays, 7-8:30 p.m. — Fort Plain’s Mayor Guy Barton will hold a weekly “Meet With The Mayor” session at the Village Hall, 168 Canal St. During the weekly gathering, which members of the public are encouraged to attend, Mayor Barton will discuss the future of Fort Plain. He will also answer questions pertaining to the village.

Tuesdays, 10-11 a.m. — The Lotus Center for Wellness and Self Care will be offering yoga sessions at 9 Center St. Call 993-9904 for more information. The center is open Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. — The Lotus Center for Wellness and Self Care will be offering aerobic classes at 9 Center St. Call (518) 993-9904 for more information.

Tuesdays — AA group will once again be meeting at The Reformed Church in the Fellowship Hall at 7 p.m.

Every other Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. — The Fort Plain Senior Center holds a pinochle tournament with prizes, sandwiches, cake and ice cream. For those of you who do not know the game of pinochle, come in any week day morning and lessons will be available. More players are always welcome. The game is easy and fun. 2nd Thursday of each month the Fort Plain Community Activity Council will meet at the Village Hall at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

3rd Wednesday of each month the Fort Plain Autism Support Group will meet at the Fort Plain United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. For more information call (518) 993-4353.

Every Monday Thursday and Friday is baked goods, Fort Plain Fulmont Community Action Agency, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Please bring your own bags. People may sign up for Child Health Plus with Vicki Morgan every other Friday at the center by appointment only. Please call Vicki at 773-5419 for an appointment.

The Fort Plain Village Planning Board will hold its regular meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Saturdays, 10-11 a.m. — Preschool Story Hours at the Fort Plain Library. No registration is required for this free, drop-in event. For further information, please call the Fort Plain Free Library at (518) 993-4646 during regular library hours.

Saturdays/Sundays, 5 p.m. — Manna Meals served free of charge at Reformed Church, 165 Canal St. All welcome.

Little Falls

May 25, 7 p.m. — There will be a benefit show for Unity Hall at Beardslee Castle, featuring local bands Stone Soup and The Dependents. Additional special guests are scheduled to join in. Entry is $5 at the door. Stone Soup will play in the “dungeon” from 7-8:30 p.m. The Dependents will play from 9-10:30 p.m. There will be a 50/50 and lottery tree raffle.

Nelliston

Weekly Events

Second Mondays, 7 p.m. — Nelliston Activities Council meeting at village office. All welcome.

Oppenheim

May 24, 8:30 a.m. — The Oppenheim Historical Society has planned Memorial Day activities with the Oppenheim Ephratah Central School. The school band and the choir will perform. The St. Johnsville American Legion will perform the rifle salute. The society purchased a wreath which will be placed at the memorial in front of the school. The public is urged to attend. Palatine Bridge

May 25-27 — Palatine Bridge will hold village-wide garage sales again this year from May 25-27. People holding sales do not need to register. Also, no maps will be available this year.

May 31 — The village of Palatine Bridge will hold a village-wide clean-up for residents. The following rules must be followed: no tires, paint cans with paint, batteries or demolition material, including but not limited to brick, wood, or drywall will be picked up. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must be properly tagged to show that freon has been removed. Doors must be removed from refrigerators and freezers. Trash should be placed in an area not to exceed eight feet long by five feet wide and five feet high. Multi-family dwellings are subject to one such pile. Trash should be placed at the curb between the hours of 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. on May 30. Please do not place trash out prior to this date. St. Johnsville

May 28, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Opening day at Fort Klock. Special tribute to Fort Klock founders and volunteers. The Tryon County Militia will drill and shoot their muskets. These Militia re-enactors are living historians who pay tribute by portraying those early colonists who fought for liberty during the Revolutionary War. Artisans will demonstrate 18th century crafts. The barn frame loom will be “dressed” for the season by members and weaver friends. A hands-on task that visitors are invited to participate in.
