Canajoharie

July 26, 7 p.m. — The Canajoharie Central School Board of Education will hold a meeting in the High School Conference Room.

July 27, 1 p.m. — The Arkell Center, Montgomery St., Canajoharie will be holding the Canajoharie Senior Citizens meeting, followed by entertainment at 1:30 p.m. by “Minnie Pearl”. All senior citizens are invited to attend. For more information contact Dorothy Morrison (518) 673-2167.

July 31, 1 p.m. — The Canajoharie Library, 2 Erie Blvd., will welcome Jonathan of “Let’s Drum” and his wide assortment of musical instruments. This interactive program uses games and improv to teach rhythm and history of different cultures. All levels of musical ability and all ages welcome.

July 31, 7 p.m. — The Guy Mendilow Band will play Music on Mainstreet. This quintet incorporates musical influences from across the Middle East, South America and beyond. It is vibrant musical storytelling awash with warm vocal harmonies, intricate textures and spellbinding rhythms.

Aug. 3-4, 7 p.m. — The Canajoharie-Fort Plain Drama Club will present Beauty and the Beast at the Canajoharie High School’s Arkell Auditorium. Tickets are $5.

Aug. 4 — The Canajoharie-Palatine Chamber of Commerce will host a Unique Historical Home Tour so that attendees may take a peek at great stone buildings, grand halls and early settler’s homes, while learning from the owners about the history of these buildings. Tickets are $10 each. Homes and churches will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Transportation assistance is available. Please call (518) 332-7999 in advance.

Weekly Events

Noon-4 p.m. (Saturday only) — The Van Alstyne Museum and Homestead, located at 4 Moyer St., is now open.

Arkell Center

Daily activities taking place at Arkell Center during the month of July 2012 will be as follows:

Monday through Friday — Noon meals are provided by the Meals of Montgomery Program (M.O.M.). Reservations are required by noon of the previous day. Call (518) 673-2000 or (518) 843-2300. Suggested donation is $3 for those 60 years of age or older.

Wednesday, 3-4 p.m. — Gentle Yoga for seniors will be held with instructor, Sylvia Wohlgemuth.

July 26, 2 p.m. — Fran Miller Dybass Sing-Along on the porch at Arkell Hall will take place.

July 27, 1:30 p.m. — The Senior Citizens Club will be holding their meeting, and directly following, Minnie Pearl will entertaining the seniors. All are welcome.

Aug. 20 and 22, 1-4 p.m. — Defensive Driving Class, sponsored by the Shults Agency, will be held. Call (518) 673-4408 and reserve a seat.

• Meetings

July 26, 2-3 p.m. — Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregivers Support Group meeting will be held with Lisa Hubbard. This service is sponsored by the Alzheimers Association of Northeastern New York.

July 27, 1 p.m. — Canajoharie Sr. Citizens Club meeting will be held.

Fort Plain

July 26, 7 p.m. — Tongue & Groove will play Haslett Park as part of the summer concert series. They play a variety of classic rock. Providing refreshments will be the Fort Plain Senior Center. All summer concerts are free of charge.

Weekly Events

Mondays, 7-8 p.m. — AA meeting will be held at the Fort Plain Senior Center. Call (518) 993-2031 for details.

Mondays, 7-8:30 p.m. — Fort Plain’s Mayor Guy Barton will hold a weekly “Meet With The Mayor” session at the Village Hall, 168 Canal St. During the weekly gathering, which members of the public are encouraged to attend, Mayor Barton will discuss the future of Fort Plain. He will also answer questions pertaining to the village.

Tuesdays, 10-11 a.m. — The Lotus Center for Wellness and Self Care will be offering yoga sessions at 9 Center St. Call (518) 993-9904 for more information. The center is open Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. — The Lotus Center for Wellness and Self Care will be offering aerobic classes at 9 Center St. Call (518) 993-9904 for more information.

Tuesdays — The Fort Plain Senior Center will hold a Pitch Tournament. For more details call (518) 993-3432.

Tuesdays — AA group will once again be meeting at The Reformed Church in the Fellowship Hall at 7 p.m.

Every other Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. — The Fort Plain Senior Center holds a pinochle tournament with prizes, sandwiches, cake and ice cream. For those of you who do not know the game of pinochle, come in any week day morning and lessons will be available. More players are always welcome. The game is easy and fun. 2nd Thursday of each month the Fort Plain Community Activity Council will meet at the Village Hall at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

3rd Wednesday of each month the Fort Plain Autism Support Group will meet at the Fort Plain United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. For more information call (518) 993-4353.

Every Monday Thursday and Friday is baked goods, Fort Plain Fulmont Community Action Agency, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Please bring your own bags. People may sign up for Child Health Plus with Vicki Morgan every other Friday at the center by appointment only. Please call Vicki at 773-5419 for an appointment.

The Fort Plain Village Planning Board will hold its regular meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Saturdays, 10-11 a.m. — Preschool Story Hours at the Fort Plain Library. No registration is required for this free, drop-in event. For further information, please call the Fort Plain Free Library at (518) 993-4646 during regular library hours.

Saturdays/Sundays, 5 p.m. — Manna Meals served free of charge at Reformed Church, 165 Canal St. All welcome.

Saturdays — The Fort Plain Senior Center will hold art classes. The instructor will be A. Williams. Call (518) 993-3432 to sign up.

Little Falls

Aug. 4 — The St. Johnsville Alumni Association’s annual reunion will be held at the Knights Inn in Little Falls. A social get-together will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. A family style dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Cost for the evening is $22.50 per person. Classes to be honored are the 50 and 25 year groups. Reservations may be sent to Janet Shuster, 150 Crum Creek Rd., St. Johnsville, NY 13452. Be sure to put your graduation year, or years attended, on your check. Nelliston

Weekly Events

St. Johnsville

July 26, 6:30 p.m. — The Town of St. Johnsville Planning Board will hold a meeting at the Town Office Complex, 7431 St. Hwy. 5, St. Johnsville to discuss required site plan review regarding a building permit application for premises situated on Matis Road.

July 27, 7 p.m. — A Stone Soup concert will be held at Fort Klock. Come and enjoy these popular, local musicians playing a variety of traditional blues, original and folk songs. There is a bit of wit thrown in to add a little zing. Featured are Suzanne Bladek, vocalist, on guitar, Joseph Sinchak on mandolin, Nick Friers on guitar, Peter Liljeberg on bass, and the multi-talented David Bladek. This concert is held in the Dutch barn, which features great acoustics. Bring lawn chairs for your comfort. Donations are appreciated.

July 30 and Aug. 6 and 13, 6:30-8:30 p.m. — The Village of St. Johnsville band concert series for this season are free to the public and will be held at the St. Johnsville Marina. Refreshments will be sold by local organizations. These concerts are sponsored by the village and town of St. Johnsville and are funded in part by the Fulton-Montgomery Arts Grant part of the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by Saratoga Arts.

Aug. 4 — All Klock-Clock family members are invited to attend the Klock Family Reunion to be held at Fort Klock. Come early to enjoy the barbecue luncheon at 12 noon. After lunch there will be time to visit with family and friends. Members of the Snell, Zimmerman and Timmerman family reunion, are invited to join the Klock Family. A small fee is charged for registration and barbecue. Register early by calling Fort Klock at (518) 568-7779 to insure adequate food is prepared.

Aug. 7, 8 and 9 — The twentieth annual Fort Klock Young Pioneer Program will help children explore, experience and celebrate history. This three day educational program is designed to offer children ages nine through thirteen a colonial adventure. Through, hands-on activities, children will experience lifestyles and tasks from the colonial period. Some of these activities include candle making, spinning and weaving, cooking and playing eighteen century games.

Only 20 students will be accepted so call (518) 568-7779 to register before July 23. There is a small fee for this program.

Stone Arabia

Aug. 5, 9 a.m. — Trinity Lutheran Church of Stone Arabia will host special musical program during Sunday Service. Erin Nellis, of Trinity Lutheran Church, and Matthew Hazzard, of St. John’s-St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, will sing a vocal duet. Nellis will be a senior at the Fort Plain School and is a member of the school Harmony Singers. Hazzard will be a senior at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service. All are invited to attend.
