Canajoharie

Aug. 3-4, 7 p.m. — The Canajoharie-Fort Plain Drama Club will present Beauty and the Beast at the Canajoharie High School’s Arkell Auditorium. Tickets are $5.

Aug. 4, 10 a.m. — The Canajoharie-Palatine Chamber of Commerce will host a Unique Historical Home Tour so that attendees may take a peek at great stone buildings, grand halls and early settler’s homes, while learning from the owners about the history of these buildings. Tickets are $10 each. Homes and churches will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Transportation assistance is available. Please call (518) 332-7999 in advance.

August 7, 7 p.m. — Music on Mainstreet’s featured band will be All Them Chops. The 17 piece big band plays classics from the big band era. All Music on Mainstreet events are free. Concerts begin at 7 p.m., with the rain location being the Canajoharie High School’s Arkell Performing Arts Center.

Aug 17, 6 p.m. — The Canajoharie Community Youth Center will hold a fundraising Boiling Pot 5K. This is the first of what the center hopes to make an annual event, featuring a 5K run/walk and a free Kids Fun Run. The event will also feature music and food. It is open to all age groups, with awards provided to the top male and female finisher in each age group. T-shirts will be provided to the first 75 registrants. The Kids Fun Run will follow the 5K, with the first 60 registrants receiving a free t-shirt. Refreshments provided after the race at the youth center. Volunteers will be needed for this event, and donations are being accepted. Weekly Events

Noon-4 p.m. (Saturday only) — The Van Alstyne Museum and Homestead, located at 4 Moyer St., is now open.

Arkell Center

Daily activities taking place at Arkell Center during the month of August 2012 will be as follows:

Monday through Friday — Noon meals are provided by the Meals of Montgomery Program (M.O.M.). Reservations are required by noon of the previous day. Call (518) 673-2000 or (518) 843-2300. Suggested donation is $3 for those 60 years of age or older.

Wednesday, 3-4 p.m. — Gentle Yoga for seniors will be held with instructor, Patty Pietrowicz.

Aug. 9 and 16, 2-4 p.m. — Second Time Around Big Band practice will be held.

• Special Events

Aug. 7, 9-10 a.m. — Farmers Market coupons will be distributed at Arkell Center. Booklets cannot be reserved. Any questions call (518) 843-2300.

Aug. 7, 9-12 Noon — Office For the Aging Outreach with HIICAP and Legal Services Coordinator, Meeghan Lyons, along with WRAP and HEAP Coordinator, Kelly Casler will be available to work individually with seniors to help answer questions and/or provide additional information regarding the mentioned topics. Open to the public.

Aug. 8 and 29, 12:45 p.m. — A public card party will be held. Donation is $2 with prizes and refreshments.

Aug. 20 and 22, 1-4 p.m. — Defensive Driving Class, sponsored by the Shults Agency, will be held. Call (518) 673-4408 and reserve a seat.

Aug. 24, 12:30 p.m. — A Senior Citizens Club picnic at Arkell Center will take place. Club members are all welcome and may bring a dish to share.

Aug. 28, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — A blood pressure clinic will be held with Home Health Care Partners Corp., co-sponsored by St. Mary’s Hospital and Nathan Littauer Hospital. In addition to conducting the blood pressure clinic, the Home Health Care Partners Corp. also provides health and wellness information.

Sept. 17 and 19, 5:30-8:30 p.m. — Defensive Driving Class, sponsored by the Shults Agency, will be held. Call (518) 673-4408 and reserve a seat.

• Meetings

Aug. 10, 1 p.m. — Canajoharie Sr. Citizens Club meeting will take place.

Aug. 14, 6 p.m. — Canajoharie/Palatine Chamber of Commerce will meet. The public is invited to attend.

Aug. 23, 2-3 p.m. — Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregivers Support Group meeting will take place with Lisa Hubbard. This service is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern New York.

Fort Plain

Weekly Events

Mondays, 7-8 p.m. — AA meeting will be held at the Fort Plain Senior Center. Call (518) 993-2031 for details.

Mondays, 7-8:30 p.m. — Fort Plain’s Mayor Guy Barton will hold a weekly “Meet With The Mayor” session at the Village Hall, 168 Canal St. During the weekly gathering, which members of the public are encouraged to attend, Mayor Barton will discuss the future of Fort Plain. He will also answer questions pertaining to the village.

Tuesdays, 10-11 a.m. — The Lotus Center for Wellness and Self Care will be offering yoga sessions at 9 Center St. Call (518) 993-9904 for more information. The center is open Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. — The Lotus Center for Wellness and Self Care will be offering aerobic classes at 9 Center St. Call (518) 993-9904 for more information.

Tuesdays — AA group will once again be meeting at The Reformed Church in the Fellowship Hall at 7 p.m.

Every other Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. — The Fort Plain Senior Center holds a pinochle tournament with prizes, sandwiches, cake and ice cream. For those of you who do not know the game of pinochle, come in any week day morning and lessons will be available. More players are always welcome. The game is easy and fun. 2nd Thursday of each month the Fort Plain Community Activity Council will meet at the Village Hall at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Every Monday Thursday and Friday is baked goods, Fort Plain Fulmont Community Action Agency, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Please bring your own bags. People may sign up for Child Health Plus with Vicki Morgan every other Friday at the center by appointment only. Please call Vicki at 773-5419 for an appointment.

The Fort Plain Village Planning Board will hold its regular meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Saturdays, 10-11 a.m. — Preschool Story Hours at the Fort Plain Library. No registration is required for this free, drop-in event. For further information, please call the Fort Plain Free Library at (518) 993-4646 during regular library hours.

Saturdays/Sundays, 5 p.m. — Manna Meals served free of charge at Reformed Church, 165 Canal St. All welcome.

Little Falls

Aug. 4 — The St. Johnsville Alumni Association’s annual reunion will be held at the Knights Inn in Little Falls. A social get-together will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. A family style dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Cost for the evening is $22.50 per person. Classes to be honored are the 50 and 25 year groups. Nelliston

Weekly Events

Second Mondays, 7 p.m. — Nelliston Activities Council meeting at village office. All welcome.

St. Johnsville

Aug. 4, 12 p.m. — All Klock-Clock family members are invited to attend the Klock Family Reunion to be held at Fort Klock. Come early to enjoy the barbecue luncheon at 12 noon. After lunch there will be time to visit with family and friends. Members of the Snell, Zimmerman and Timmerman family reunion, are invited to join the Klock Family. A small fee is charged for registration and barbecue. Register early by calling Fort Klock at (518) 568-7779 to insure adequate food is prepared.

Aug. 6 and 13, 6:30-8:30 p.m. — The village of St. Johnsville band concert series  are free to the public and will be held at the St. Johnsville Marina. Refreshments will be sold by local organizations. Featured Aug. 6 is The Karg Brothers.

Aug. 7, 8 and 9 — The twentieth annual Fort Klock Young Pioneer Program will help children explore, experience and celebrate history. This three day educational program is designed to offer children ages nine through thirteen a colonial adventure. Through, hands-on activities, children will experience lifestyles and tasks from the colonial period. Some of these activities include candle making, spinning and weaving, cooking and playing eighteen century games.

Aug. 10, 7 p.m. — Harpist Elizabeth Meriwether Huntley will perform at the St. Johnsville Community House, Washington St. The program is sponsored by the Margaret Reaney Memorial Library. The St. Johnsville program, free to the public, is suitable for all ages. For more information contact the library at (518) 568-7822.

Stone Arabia

Aug. 5, 9 a.m. — Trinity Lutheran Church of Stone Arabia will host special musical program during Sunday Service. Erin Nellis, of Trinity Lutheran Church, and Matthew Hazzard, of St. John’s-St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, will sing a vocal duet. Nellis will be a senior at the Fort Plain School and is a member of the school Harmony Singers. Hazzard will be a senior at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service. All are invited to attend.
