-- Brown named Employee of the Quarter

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- St. Johnsville Rehab and Nursing Center has elected Jim Brown Employee of the Quarter for the months of January-March 2014. Jim has worked in the Finance Department since October 1, 2012. Jim is always willing to help anyone with computer/printer issues, and is very knowledgeable. He always goes the extra mile whether assisting someone with computer issues or helping a resident with their finances.

-- Senior Saints hold first meeting of 2014

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- On Wednesday, Jan. 8, 29 Senior Saints gathered at the St. Johnsville Community House for the first meeting of 2014, with President Tom Croce calling the meeting to order.

Kathy LaCoppola and Cres Smith reported that six blood pressures were taken and recorded.

50/50 raffle prizes were awarded to Kathy LaCoppola and Joyce DiLorenzo.

January birthdays were celebrated with refreshments provided by Joyce Giarrizzo and Leanora Gutowski. 

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22 with a luncheon at 11:45 a.m. followed by the business meeting at 12:30 p.m.

A game of Bingo took place after the meeting, conducted by Activity Director Barbara Croce.

-- Retired teachers to offer annual scholarship

CANAJOHARIE -- For its thirty-first year, the Upper Montgomery County Retired Teachers’ Association, will offer its annual scholarship award to a qualifying high school senior who will pursue a career in teaching. 

The single scholarship will be $500. It is open to any senior in the Canajoharie, Fonda-Fultonville, Fort Plain or Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Central School District who is entering his/her freshman year in an accredited educational institution with an intent to enter the teaching profession. 

Applications for this scholarship will be available through the guidance departments of the above mentioned school systems. Completed applications must be returned to the scholarship committee no later than April 30, 2014. The winner will be announced in late June.
