Root 2014 appointments announced

FLAT CREEK -- At the Root Town Council’s Jan. 8 meeting, newly elected town Supervisor Gary Kamp announced 2014 appointments as follows: Laurel Sherrie Eriksen, tax collector, registrar and records officer; Karen Kruppenbacher, deputy clerk, registrar and tax collector; LuEmma Quackenbush, deputy town supervisor; Scott Booth, deputy highway superintendent; Jane Hubschmitt, health officer; Robert Subik, attorney; Clifton Dorrough, code enforcement officer; Richard Rickard, dog control officer; Virginia Clinansmith, court clerk; William Maring, historian.

Town Assessor Bob Harris reported that all exemption renewals are due back in his office before March 1.

Attorney Bob Subik reported that he attended the Bond Anticipation Note (BAN) closing at NBT Bank on December 18 for the new salt and sand shed building construction. The rate for the BAN is 1.65 percent for a 1-year term.

There was a discussion about requiring all town residents to have reflective (fire) numbers at least three inches high near the road to aid the fire department in locating residences in the case of a fire or other emergency.   

Laurie Kamp reported for the Rural Grove Fire Department that the firemen had formed a committee to work with the town on this project.

There is still a vacancy for an alternate on the Town of Root Planning Board and a vacancy on the Board of Appeals to replace Dominic Cuomo, who was elected to a town councilman position effective Jan. 1.
