TOWN OF LITTLE FALLS — A former Fort Plain athlete was killed early Friday in a rollover crash into a pond between the city of Little Falls and the village of Herkimer.

According to State Police out of Herkimer, Bo M. Baker, 21, of Center Street, Fort Plain, was westbound on state Route 5 in a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle exited off the south shoulder, struck a snow embankment and overturned coming to rest on the vehicle's roof, which was partially submerged in a pond adjacent to the roadway.

The accident occurred in the vicinity of a former Salada building that has a water tower painted to look like a hot air balloon.

Troopers indicated that Baker was the vehicle’s sole occupant.

The time of the accident has not been determined. A passing motorist placed a 911 call at approximately 6:45 a.m., according to State Police.

Herkimer County Coroner Vincent Enea responded to the scene. Baker’s body was transported to Little Falls Hospital for an autopsy.

Baker was a catcher on the Hilltopper's 2009 title team.

Investigation into the accident is continuing.

Additional information will be forthcoming.
