-- Arkell Hall Adult Home news for January

CANAJOHARIE -- Arkell Hall has celebrated the ringing in of the New Year in numerous ways this January.

A special New Year's brunch was held Thursday, Jan. 23, with a delicious buffet featuring a French toast bake, egg bake, fruit platter, hash browns, bacon and sausage, juices, coffee cakes and broccoli casserole.

To entertain each other, everyone wore a hat just for fun, and then took part in a short history on hats, followed by music.

Everyone at Arkell revisited their youth by singing childhood songs such as "London Bridge", "Old McDonald", "My Darlin' Clementine" and many more, led by Elinor and Friends.

Everyone also celebrated Chinese New Year with fortune cookies, Chinese zodiac, lore and lots of good discussion.

A meet and greet gathering was held with the senior neighbors at Arkell Center. Weekly exercise and winter indoor walking program were held, as was weekly Wednesday Fellowship, Monday Bible Study and card party at the center.

Alex Bleichner was in to lead residents in a Sunday afternoon bingo game.

Also, two outings took place, including a local shopping spree and lunch out at  Canajoharie's Iroquois Lanes. Residents enjoyed coffee klatches and the hot topics group. A wonderful DVD was shared on Frank Sinatra duets.

Several residents went out to appointments and family outings.

Many family and friends were in to visit.
