Sprakers dog case adjourned again

ROOT -- A court hearing involving the owner of the Sprakers dog breeding facility was adjourned Monday for the second time this month.

Assistant Court Clerk Beverly Bramer said she was not sure why it was adjourned and that no one was available to talk to about the postponement.

Owner Herbert Weich was scheduled to appear in connection with a second animal neglect charge for reported conditions at the Flat Creek Border Collies facility on Rappa Road.

The law says any person who harms, tortures or kills any wild or domesticated animal, deprives any animal of necessary food or drink, neglects or refuses it sustenance or any other act producing such cruelty, is guilty of a class A misdemeanor.

Last Monday Weich was scheduled to appear in court but deferred the hearing in order to hire an attorney.

Weich hired Attorney Ronald Schur, of Mayfield, to defend his case in the civil hearing that is running parallel to this criminal case.

Schur did not return calls for comment. Weich hasn't returned requests for an interview since the issue surfaced.
