Howard repeats as United States karate champion

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- Coming off a year in which he was named Competitor of the Year by the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame for the second year in a row, Sheldon Howard repeated his four, first place finishes at the American Karate Association Grand Nationals held in Chicago January 31-February1.

Howard, a St. Johnsville resident, won four first place trophies in 2013 and repeated his performance in 2014. His 2013 performance landed him in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" column in February of 2013. named "Competitor of the Year " by the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame for 2012, Howard was recently notified of the same honor for 2013.

In 2013 Howard won 19 separate karate championships on the competitive circuit, as he often competes in multiple events at tournaments including forms, weapons, self defense and fighting.

Later this month month, Howard is being honored by nytournaments.com for being the top competitor in his age division for 2013 for forms, weapons and self defense.
