-- Fort Plain changes meeting date to Feb. 20

FORT PLAIN -- The village board of trustees had changed its meeting night this week from Tuesday, Feb. 18, to Thursday, Feb 20. 

The board meets at 7 p.m. at the village hall, 168 Canal St.

-- Troop 61 to hold McDonald's night Feb. 25

CANAJOHARIE -- Fort Plain Boy Scout Troop 61 will hold a fundraising night at the Dutchtown Plaza McDonald's, Palatine Bridge, on Tuesday, Feb. 25. A percentage of all items sold between 5-7 p.m. will benefit the group.

-- Valley Choralaires to resume concert rehearsals Feb. 25

CANAJOHARIE -- President Dorothy Morrison, of the Valley Choralaires, announces that the Valley Choralaires will resume concert rehearsals Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Canajoharie Reformed Church House located on Front St. Rehearsals will continue every Tuesday at 7 p.m. Anyone wishing to join the Choralaires is welcome to attend a rehearsal. As in the past, the group will be directed by Alison Wallace, and accompanied on the piano by Janet Shuster.

The first concert of 2014 will be the Spring Concert May 18.

-- American Red Cross donation clinics for March

The American Red Cross will host two local blood donation clinics in March.

On March 12, one will be hosted at the Canajoharie High School gymnasium, 136 Scholastic Way, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On March 24, one will be hosted at the Fort Plain High School Gymnasium, West St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

-- 2nd Annual Chili Cookoff to be held March 1

CANAJOHARIE -- The Van Alstyne Homestead Society, 42 Moyer St., will present the 2nd Annual Chili Cookoff on March 1, from Noon to 4 p.m. Locals, from mayors to principals, will compete with chili recipes, with prizes awarded for best traditional and most creative chili. Judging will commence at 2 p.m. Music will be provided by the Jan Chronkhite Quartet featuring Jan Chronkhite on saxophone, Bill Brust on drums, Ira Meltzer on grand piano and Laurie Stewart providing vocals. T-shits will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefitting Fort Plain flood victims. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Admission is $10 and tickets are available at the Fort Plain Plain Food Co-Op and the MVC Tourist Center, Canajoharie. For more information call (518) 673-4186.

-- PSS Antique Show and Sale to be held March 8

CANAJOHARIE -- The Palatine Settlement Society will hold its annual indoor Antique Show and Sale at the Arkell Museum, 2 Erie Blvd., on Saturday March 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

25 Dealers will exhibit and sell furniture, quilts, books, postcards, paintings, toys, jewelry, early brass and iron, etc.

Admission is $4 or a combination ticket for $7 will also include admission to the museum exhibits. There will be an appraisal booth with a charge of $5 for two items. 

A light lunch will be available.

This is one of the group's major fundraising events, with proceeds benefiting the restoration of the 1747 Nellis Tavern in St. Johnsville.

-- Get pre-sale tickets for March 22 Blue Collar Comedy Night

CANAJOHARIE -- Blue Collar Comedy Night will be held at the Canajoharie Moose, 205 Erie Blvd., on March 22. The party will have a redneck theme, so bring your sense of humor. The evening's headliner will be Dave Cooperman, a regular on the Bob and Tom Radio Show, with appearances at the Boston Comedy Festival, Caroline's and the Comic Strip Live. Also featured will be Host/MC Pat DaBiere, and comics Lee Stevens and Mike Greg.

There are only 100 tickets available through pre-sale only. Call (518) 673-3993 for tickets. Tickets are $15 for a buffet and show. Buffet is at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.

-- Vendor/show booths available for April 12 FFA Farm Toy Show

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- The Mohawk Valley FFA will hold their annual Farm Toy Show at the OESJ Central School Gym, 44 Center St., St. Johnsville, on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Breakfast and lunch will be available. Admission is a $2 donation. Children under five enter for free. Vendor tables are available for $15 before March 21. Vendor tables will be $20 after that date. Farm toy show tables are free.
