CANAJOHARIE — The 15 students in Canajoharie High School Technology Teacher Dwayne Heroth’s Residential Structures class recently built three picnic tables that will be donated and auctioned off during the benefit for graduate Tyson Fowler.

“I figured it would be a good activity for the students to learn basic construction skills. And, a chance for the students to contribute to a good cause,” Heroth said.

“The students learned about measuring and layout, cutting material, and assembling tables. These are skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.”

The 15 students in his class range from grades 9-12. In future classes, the students will be working on building a garden shed for someone in the community and other construction projects related to residential construction.

The benefit runs from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24 at the high school.
