Weekly news from Arkell Hall

CANAJOHARIE —The following news from Arkell Hall Adult Home is for the week of Feb. 18:

During President’s Day week, Arkell celebrated with a Senior Neighbors Brunch, which joined friends and neighbors. A gathering of approximately 30 people socialized at the center, with everyone bringing a dish to pass.

Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 19, a coffee klatch was held with 14 residents attending a program featuring fun presidential facts and trivia.

The weekly Wednesday fellowship was led by Rev. Virginia Ogden, of the Church of Good Shepard. Four residents went out to play cards at Arkell Center and eleven residents joined Dorothy Mailloux and Nancy Mace for Arkell’s monthly game of BINGO.

Exercise class was held Thursday morning, followed by a walk — part of Arkell Center’s Walking Program.

Mary Heiser had a visit from her granddaughter, Doreen. Ed Gayducheck was in to visit Anna Pipola. Norma Clohecy went out to lunch with Beth Close. Ruth Austin went out with her daughter. Mrs. Summerson went out with her son, Jay. Bernice Kelley and Eve Fuelleman ventured out to enjoy the Ames pancake breakfast with family and friends.

Yet another great week at the hall.

Bergen named to fall dean’s list

ALBANY —Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is pleased to announce that Benjamin Bergen, of St. Johnsville, earned a place on the school’s Dean’s List for the fall 2012 semester.

Dean’s List status is awarded to students who have successfully completed their course work with a semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher out of a possible 4.0 score.

Applicants sought for dairy princess

The Montgomery County Dairy Princess Committee is seeking†girls between the age of 16 and 24 from Montgomery County who are interested in promoting dairy products as Dairy Princess or a member of her court.

Those interested in becoming Dairy Princess should be a daughter of a dairy farmer, a dairy employee, someone employed in a dairy related industry, or owner of at least two dairy cows in a 4-H program or FFA club, or have served†a full year as dairy ambassador.

Those interested must be single, never married, have no children and must not marry during their reign. The Dairy Princess holds the title for one year, and her responsibilities cover a wide range of public relations.

Anyone interested in this opportunity should contact Tammy Chittenden, committee advisor, at (518) 332-0110. Deadline for applicants is March 18.

Pollak named to Roberts Dean’s List

ROCHESTER — Roberts Wesleyan College has announced that Jessica Pollak, of St. Johnsville, was named to the Dean’s List for outstanding performance for the fall 2012 semester.

Pollak received High Honors.

Honors require a grade point average ranging from 3.5 to 3.69. Higher honors require a grade point average ranging from 3.7 to 3.89. Highest honors require a grade point average ranging from 3.9 to 4.0.

Werzinger earns degree from MVCC

UTICA — Mohawk Valley Community College recently celebrated the dedication and hard work of Shayla Werzinger, of St. Johnsville, who completed course work in Advertising-Media Marketing and Management, earning her degree.

The 2012 Fall Commencement was held in the Robert R. Jorgensen Athletics/Event Center on the Utica Campus with some 290 MVCC students being invited to walk across stage for the conferral of associate degrees or certificates.

MVCC President Randall J. VanWagoner, Ph.D., presided over the event with remarks.

Locals named to UAlbany Dean’s List

ALBANY —The following students were named to the University at Albany’s fall 2012 Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement: Jessica Hopper, of Sprakers; John Mazzarella, of Palatine Bridge; Ashley Smith, of Fort Plain; Hannah Stahl, of Canajoharie.

Fort Plain to hold board meeting

FORT PLAIN — The village of Fort Plain will hold its regular village board meeting March 12 at 7 p.m. at 168 Canal St. in Ft. Plain. The meeting was changed due to the village election being held March 19.

Valley Alliance Church plans events

NELLISTON — On Friday, March 8 at 8 p.m., the Valley Alliance Church, State Highway 5, east of Nelliston will be having youth night with guest speaker Paul Veit (Dino Pastor) who will discuss the topic “What’s Wrong with Human Evolution?” This event is free and all ages are welcome to attend. On Saturday, March 9 at 10 a.m., the church will be having a kids dinosaur carnival with guest speaker Paul Veit (Dino Pastor) who will bring 15 dinosaur games and will speak on “The True History of Dinosaurs.” This event is free for children through sixth grade and parents of all ages. Also on March 9, at 7 p.m., the church will be having a creation versus evolution with guest speaker Paul Veit (Dino Pastor) who will address this important topic from science and the bible. This event is free for ages, children, youth and adults.
