Staff Report

CANAJOHARIE — A four-year-old boy was killed in the town of Canajoharie Friday afternoon following a fatal farm accident.

According to a press release from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, sheriff patrols responded to South Buel Road at 3 p.m. on Friday for a report of a fatal accident.

An investigation from the Sheriff's Office revealed that the four-year-old, Keith E. McCann, of Ray Mowers Road, Canajoharie, was a passenger on a farm tractor that was being operated by his uncle.

The uncle told police he was driving down the roadway when Keith began to lose his balance, and before he could catch him from falling, his nephew was struck with the tractor tire.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office pronounced McCann deceased at the scene.

Investigators from the Sheriff's Office were assisted by Mid County EMS, Canajoharie and Ames fire departments, Montgomery County Emergency Management Personnel, and the New York State Police, who conducted accident reconstruction.

Keith was the son of Christopher T. McCann and Tara A. Smith McCann. He attended pre-kindergarten at Sharon Springs Central School.
