Fort Plain's Street Fair Days cancelled

Wednesday, March 12, 2014 - Updated: 8:01 PM

FORT PLAIN -- It was announced during Tuesday's special meeting of the Fort Plain Village Board that there will be no Street Fair Days held in the village this year. "We decided not to hold the event because of various things taking place," said Mayor Guy Barton, explaining that the 2013 flood damaged underground drainage lines, which must be repaired prior to holding such large village events.

"It would be best not to do it at this time," said Barton of Street Fair Days, stating that a replacement event will be scheduled for sometime in August. The event will tentatively feature kids' attractions such as water slides, and will be targeted at local youths.

Last year's Street Fair Days celebration was moved to Wiles Park with disastrous results, as the event was extremely poorly attended throughout. "It was like we threw a party and nobody came," said Fort Plain Community Activity Council member and Event Chair James Katovitch.
