TOWN OF ROOT -- A produce tractor trailer rolled over on the Thruway early Tuesday morning, spilling a load of cabbage onto Route 5S.

Officials at the scene said the driver fell asleep, however a spokesman at state police would not confirm that.

Officials said as the driver was turning a corner he hit the guardrail and tipped over, siding down a stretch of grass separating the Thruway and Route 5S.

State trooper Steven Casabella said the driver was examined at the scene, but did not require any additional medical attention. Nobody else was involved in the accident.

There were no lane blockages reported and crews were working to clean up the truck debris and cabbage by early afternoon.

Casabella said 40 feet of fencing and 51 posts were damaged in the accident
