A Celebration of Ireland at Upstate Chapel to be held March 15

CANAJOHARIE — A Celebration of Ireland will be held at the Former Sts. Peter and Paul Church (now the Upstate Chapel), at the corner of Cliff and Walnut streets, on Friday, March 15, at 7 p.m. The family-friendly recital will celebrate Irish music with performances by local ensembles, choruses and soloists. It will feature local artists such as the Valley Bog Players, Llaisons Plaisantes, Our Lady of Hope Choir, Kelsey Stockwell, Alison Wallace, The Stonehouse Piper, Susan Crua, The Sentimentalists (Mohawk Valley Chorus), Judy Sinner, Mark Hitrick, and Eric M. Stroud playing the organ. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free to all. A free-will offering to support Canajoharie arts will be accepted. AYSO registration and family fun night March 15 and 29

CANAJOHARIE — AYSO registration and family fun night will be held at Iroquois Lanes, Route 5S, on March 15 and 29, from 7-9 p.m. each evening. Family fun night will feature two games of glow bowling, shoe rental and music for $9 per person, or $32 for a family of four. Community Action Committee to hold scrapbooking event March 16

CANAJOHARIE — The Canajoharie High School Community Action Committee invites residents who like to scrapbook to an event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16 in the high school cafeteria. To reserve a spot, call (518) 673-6330.

Third annual Stop Hunger Now event March 16

FORT PLAIN — The third annual Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event will be held March 16, 2013, at the Harry Hoag Elementary School, Fort Plain. Packaging will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will go until the goal — to package 40,000 meals, for which $10,000 must be raised — is met, or until 1 p.m. Call (518) 993-4302 or email: fortplainRCA@yahoo.com to sign up today. Fundraising Chamber lasagna dinner to be held March 20

CANAJOHARIE — The Canajoharie-Palatine Chamber of Commerce, as part of their "Restaurant of the Month" fundraising endeavor, allowing residents to support the chamber and local businesses simultaneously, will hold a lasagna dinner at Mercato Pizza Restaurant, 38 W. Main St., Canajoharie, on March 20, from 5-7 p.m. Served will be lasagna, salad and bread. Tickets are $9 per person. Call (518) 673-4411 for reservations or to order take-out.

March of the Arts to be held March 24

FORT PLAIN — The Arts Factory of Montgomery County has scheduled a March of the Arts event March 24, at the Table at Fort Plain, from 3-5 p.m. The event, a social gathering of artists and lovers of the arts, will feature five artists displaying and selling their work. There will be live entertainment and refreshments. There are a limited number of tickets available at $15 per person. $20 tickets, which will include a one year membership as a Friend of the Arts Factory of Montgomery County, are also available. Elementary and secondary budget hearing to be held April 16

FORT PLAIN — The Fort Plain Central School District will hold a budget hearing on the elementary and secondary budget Tuesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. The full budget hearing is Tuesday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m.

The annual budget vote runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, in the Harry Hoag Elementary School gym.

CYC basketball tournaments to be held April 20

CANAJOHARIE — On April 20, the Canajoharie Community Youth Center will hold three-on-three basketball tournaments for adults. They've also added a free throw shooting contest for grades 3-8, a bake sale, concessions including hot dogs and hamburgers, popcorn and cotton candy, and vendors. Even if you are not playing, the public is invited to attend in support of the CYC summer program.
