-- OESJ presents concert March 20

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- Oppenheim-Ephratah St. Johnsville Central School High School Music Dept. presents their March Music in the Schools concert entitled "Movie Night" to be held Thursday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Featured in the program will be high school band, high school choir, Select Choir, Jazz Ensemble and Handbell Choir. Each group will be performing a variety of themes from popular movies.

The concert is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

-- Montgomery County Sanitary District #1 to hold meeting March 22

NELLISTON -- The Montgomery County Sanitary District #1 Board of Directors will be meeting Saturday, March 22, at 8 a.m. at 28 Old Station Road in Nelliston.

-- OESJ fundraising jousting tournament on March 22

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- On Saturday, March 22, the OESJ Class of 2014 will hold an inflatable jousting tournament at the OESJ High School, 44 Center St., St. Johnsville. Participants will stand on inflatable platforms and joust each other with giant "q-tip sticks". The winners will be honored with a prize and the title of tournament champion. Grades 6-8 will joust promptly at 10 a.m. Grades 9-12 will joust at 12 p.m. Adults will joust at 3 p.m. To joust, participants must pay $10 in advance or $12 the day of the tournament. Deadline for pre-registration is 3 p.m. on March 21. Walk-in registration deadline is the beginning of the individual age brackets.

-- Third annual March of the Arts to be held March 23

FORT PLAIN -- Works of five local artists and entertainment by guitarist John Resch will be featured during the third annual March of the Arts celebration at The Table from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 23.

Joining folk artist Phyllis Duffy and watercolorist Joanne Resch will be Garlyn Maginnis, Stephanie Terwilliger and Kathryn Bartshct.

Culinary masterpieces by Johnson-and-Wales-trained chef Aaron Katovitch will round out the event, which will be held at the 70 Canal St. restaurant.

Tickets are $15 per person or $20 per person with a one-year membership to the Arts Factory. They can be purchased at The Table Restaurant in Fort Plain; the Picture Perfect art gallery on Erie Boulevard or Krutz Properties on West Main Street in Canajoharie; or by calling (518) 698-3004. Tickets are also available at the door.

The Arts Factory of Montgomery County was formed to organize and promote area artists, artisans and art-venue services. Its goal is to stimulate cultural opportunities for the residents of and visitors to the western Montgomery County area.

-- FPCSD Board of Education holding special meeting March 24

FORT PLAIN -- The Fort Plain Central School Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, March 24 in the conference room at the Harry Hoag Elementary School. On the agenda is a public comment session and a discussion devoted to personnel issues.

-- Kids to learn about maple syrup during March 25 story hour

FORT PLAIN -- Fort Plain Free Library Story Hour for pre-schoolers is going to host a Sugaring-Off Party, Tuesday, March 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Fort Plain Free Library. “The Sugaring-Off Party” by Author Jonathon London and illustrated by Gilles Pelletter will be read.

Various implements used in the process of making maple syrup will be shown and their use described by Willis Barshied, Jr. In addition each participant will create their own simple booklet about maple syrup with the guidance of Artist Joanne C. Resch. A special sweet surprise awaits as the story hour program unfolds.

-- 15th Annual Wild Game Feed to be held March 29

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- The H.C. Smith Benefit Club, 538 Crum Creek Road, will host the 15th Annual Wild Game Feed on Saturday, March 29, from noon to 6 p.m. The event will feature an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring a spread of unique wild game dishes. There will be free draft beer (until gone). The event will also feature chainsaw carver Rich Koonz, vendors, raffles and more. $15 donation required for admission for adults, kids 10 and under enter for free.

-- St. John's Reformed Church to host spaghetti supper April 7

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- St. John's Reformed Church, 68 West Main St., will hold a take-out spaghetti supper on Monday, April 7, from 4-7 p.m. For deliveries, call (518) 568-7396. A dinner will be $7.50.

-- Youth Serving Veterans Spring Cleanup Day to be held April 26

FONDA -- The Montgomery County Department of Youth, ATI and Veteran's Services announces the first Youth Serving Veterans Spring Cleanup Day to be held Saturday, April 26, at 9 a.m.

It will be a great community service experience, where Montgomery County's youth will have an opportunity to give back and show their appreciation, to Veterans by providing yard clean-up services.

"To be able to partner the youth of the county, with those who have served our country, will make for a great day and terrific event," Montgomery County Executive Matt Ossenfort said. "This is an awesome opportunity for kids to learn from an important resource -- our veterans."

The Montgomery County Youth Bureau and Veterans' Service Agency are seeking youth, youth groups and youth organizations, willing to offer their time to the Veterans in our community.

A picnic will be held in the afternoon for the youth groups, chaperones and Veterans participating in the event.

To sign on as a volunteer youth group, or if you are a Veteran and would like some assistance with your spring yard work, call the Montgomery County Youth Bureau at 853-4355, or email the Youth Bureau Director, Brenda Rava, at brava@co.montgomery.ny.us, by March 21.

-- Village changes billing date for water and sewer bills

FORT PLAIN -- The village of Fort Plain has changed the billing date for water and sewer billing. The next billing will be mailed April 1, 2014 and due no later than May 1, 2014. Billing dates have been moved from April 15 and October 15 to the first of the month.
