Volunteers build and install new roof hatch at West Hill School

Thursday, March 21, 2013 - Updated: 12:13 AM

CANAJOHARIE — On March 19, during a building inspection of West Hill School, volunteer Adam Bermas discovered that one of two roughly three-by-four-foot hatches, which

allow access to the roof of the building, had blown off and been smashed

into several pieces during a wind storm.

On Sunday, March 17, volunteers Tim Shepard and Tolga Morawski (both supporters of the West Hill School Committee) took a few hours to rebuild the

roof hatch and patch several smaller nail holes in the copper flashing.

John Walsh, Hein Kraak, and Dave Hayes also helped coordinate and provide tools, while Beech-Nut supplied the wood used for the repairs.
