ST. JOHNSVILLE -- On Saturday, OESJ students jousted for the senior class, doing battle in order to bring in money for the Class of 2014's senior trip, which, if approved by the Board of Education, will see the class traveling to Orlando, Florida.

The OESJ Middle School competition took place at 10 a.m., and with only three competing, Isabella Masi was crowned champion. In the high school competition, which began promptly at noon, there were five participants, with senior Alex Fisher taking the title after numerous rounds.

The rules were simple -- no shots to the face, although the students wore protective face cages, and no shots to the torso. Students, positioned inside a large, square, bounce-house-like structure, were then instructed to knock one another off an inflatable podium with large, battering-ram-like weapons, the first falling from their perch losing that round.

The Class of 2014 is currently arranging another fundraising event. Basket Bingo will be held Thursday, April 17, at 6 p.m. at the OESJ High School. Currently, the senior class is seeking donations of products or gift certificates from local businesses, which will be given away as prizes during the event. Attendees may pay at the door for a Bingo game board. There will also be concessions available.

Other upcoming fundraising events for the class include a bottle drive on March 29, Family Portraits on March 29-30, Wolf Games on April 26 (a "Hunger Games" style event), and a bottle drive on April 26.

A continuous bottle drive is also going on now. At any time during regular business hours, the public can drop off refundable cans and bottles at Amy's Recycling Center, Mechanic St., St. Johnsville, and say they are for the OESJ Senior Class.
