On Tuesday evening, Bob Buck approached the Canajoharie Village Board asking that they support an upcoming local event — Treads and Threads — planned for July 13. Buck, working with a group of young adults from Canajoharie and Fort Plain "interested in being involved with their communities", has planned the event with three components.

The first component will literally and symbolically link Canajoharie and Fort Plain, as members from each community will form a human chain from one to the next along the bike path. That portion of the event will culminate at 12 Noon. The goal, said Buck, "is so that we can start working together as two communities instead of being divided."

The second component is that the admission fee for each entrant would be a shirt or a pair of pants that can be donated to whatever charitable organization — many of which will be invited to the event — that the donor chooses.

The third component will be the collection of shoes, as the group is working with Nike and Converse's recycling program, which will ship the collected shoes to a recycling center to be re-used. Buck said he hopes that 300 pairs of shoes will be collected during the event, which he said will only take place one time.

The village board issued their support, with Mayor Francis Avery asking that Buck keep them apprised of all plans.
