CANAJOHARIE -- On April 25, at 6 p.m., the Canajoharie Library will be putting ten local bakers' decorating skills to the test with a unique competition.

The second annual Canajoharie Cupcake Wars is a fundraiser to benefit the Canajoharie Library. Ten local bakers, caterers, and restaurant owners will set up a decorating station inside the Arkell Museum’s Great Hall. The bakers will bring with them undecorated cupcakes, which they'll bring to life before your eyes, and all the supplies necessary to create a fun, themed display — all within 30 minutes.

The participating bakers include: Grandma's Kitchen, Canajoharie; Ayers House, Fort Plain; The Cakery, Dolgeville; Gino's Restaurant, Canajoharie; Aunt Bobbie's, Herkimer; Schneider's Bakery, Cooperstown; Bridge St. Bakery and Cafe, St. Johnsville; Dome 49, Fort Plain; Blu Box Bakery, Ballston Lake; and Jen Veit, Canajoharie.

Entry is free and all ages are welcome. The Canajoharie Library will be open for business and library volunteers will be selling refreshments, including homemade cupcakes, at affordable prices.

A panel of judges will taste each entry and award three cash prizes: Best Display, Most Unique, and Best Tasting. Competition cupcakes will be available for sale after the judging to enjoy immediately or packaged for home, though guests can also purchase $1 cupcakes made by volunteers all night long.

During the Cupcake Wars, there will also be over forty gift baskets on display that will be raffled off at the end of the night. Baskets range in value from $50-$250.  Some of the fabulous baskets you can expect to see are: a wreath made entirely of balls of yearn and knitting needles, wine baskets, baskets of gift cards, $100 money tree and a $100 Lottery Tree.

Raffle tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5 or 13 for $10.

The library is located at 2 Erie Blvd. For more information, or for directions, call (518) 673-2314, visit the library online at, or check out the library's Facebook page.
