Catholic Daughters hold April meeting

Wednesday, April 30, 2014 - Updated: 4:21 PM

FORT PLAIN -- Court Catherine Esther #1264 met Monday, April 7, at Our Lady of Hope Church with Regent Marlene Nalli presiding.

Vice Regent Kathy Walsh read excerpts from the State Newsletter “The Rising Dawn” and noted that the immediate Past State Regent Penny Martin recently died. A letter from NY State Court Regent Mary Ziesig suggested that courts donate to the State Fund for Seminarians in the Odgensburg Diocese in her memory and the court moved to do so.

The Regent thanked members for their participation in the annual Tea Party fundraiser held in February. The drawing for the Tea Party prizes was held, with Anne Millington winning a year’s court membership and CDA pin. Jennie Yuchniewicz and Sue Anne Wheadon’s names were also selected and they each won a Price Chopper gift card.

Members were reminded to join in praying the rosary during the “One Million Rosaries for Unborn Babies” event to be held on May 2-4, which is sponsored by the St. Michael the Archangel Organization.

A nominating committee consisting of Doris Dutcher, Sue-Anne Wheadon and Susan Yuhasz was elected at the March meeting. This committee met in March and selected a slate of officers for the 2014-16 term.

Dutcher, chairman of the committee, reported on their progress in choosing the slate. She announced that they filled the slate as follows: Regent, Marlene Nalli; Vice Regent, Kathy Walsh; Recording Secretary, Cheryl Benninger; Financial Secretary, Barbara Hislop; and Treasurer, Debra DiVisconti.

Regent Nalli noted that information about the court’s annual graduation award would be included in the OLH church bulletin until the June 1 deadline. She added that applications and additional information would be available at the church office and from her. The $200 award is open to any current high school graduate who is a registered member of Our Lady of Hope parish.

Regent Nalli reported that she had been in touch by the Albany Diocesan newspaper “The Evangelist” about placing a congratulatory Ad in their Special edition welcoming Bishop Scharfenburger to the Diocese. She stated that she contacted the other courts in the diocese about chipping in for a group ad. All of the courts agreed to this and the ad will be included in the April 17 issue.

The regent announced that the Court Fundraiser Night at McDonald's in Palatine Bridge has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. A committee was appointed to publicize the event and to work at the restaurant during those two hours.

Before adjournment, the regent reminded members that the next meeting would be held on Monday, May 5 in the classroom of Our Lady of Hope Church. She added that the meeting would begin in the church with a ceremonial Crowning of the Blessed Mary.

The meeting closed with prayers for sick members and relatives.

After the business meeting, the Audit committee, consisting of Cathy Smith, Doris Dutcher and Rebecca Carter, met with District Deputy Mary Morse and the book officers to conduct a financial review of the court‘s books.
