FORT PLAIN -- Members of Catholic Daughters’ Court Catherine Esther #1264 met Monday, June 2, at Our Lady of Hope Church in Fort Plain. The meeting opened with The CDA Summer Prayer Service led by Spiritual Chairman Cathy Smith.

Regent Marlene Nalli introduced Guest Speaker Courtney Quackenbush, an LPN at St Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam and the daughter of member Susan Quackenbush. She shared experiences of her recent trip to Haiti, where she served as a medical volunteer for Project MediShare, traveling to Port-O-Prince and spending a week working at the Bernard-Mevs Hospital caring for patients in the paraplegics ward.

She stated that it was a great experience and would volunteer for the project again once she finishes her education. She added that she will be attending FMCC in the fall to earn an RN Degree. Nalli thanked her for sharing her experiences with the court and presented her with a monetary gift.

Quality of Life Chairman Kathy Walsh reported that she, her husband John and granddaughters Amiah Valdez and Nataleigh Van Heusen, had participated in the American Cancer’s Society’s “Relay for Life”, held on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17 at the Dreams Park in Cooperstown. She thanked the court for sponsoring her and shared photos of the event with members. She added that her team; ”Doin' it for You” raised over $13,000.

Regent Nalli noted that she received two applications for the court’s annual $200 graduation award. She appointed Walsh, along with Education Chairs Debra DiVisconti and Doreen Shariff, to review them and choose this year’s recipient.

Locations for the court’s summer outdoor meetings were discussed, and it was decided to hold the July meeting at the National Kateri Shrine in Fonda and the August meeting at Wiles Park in Fort Plain. Members will gather at the Shrine on Monday July 7 at 6:30 p.m. for a picnic before the business meeting. A covered dish supper will be held at 6 p.m. before the August 4 meeting.

Final prayers were offered for sick members and relatives, for priests and clergy and world peace.
