Looking Back Correction - 07/03/2014

Wednesday, July 02, 2014 - Updated: 2:22 PM

In last week's CSE (June 26-July 2) there are two corrections that need to be made in "Looking Back" under Fort Plain for 20 years ago, as follows:

1. The name of the valedictorian in the Fort Plain Central School District for the 1994 graduating class was inadvertently omitted.

After the Fort Plain Scholarship Association presentations were completed, a tearful passage by class valedictorian Derek Matthew Bowley was given. Bowley opened his speech in a very unusual way -- he tore the thing to bits and ad libbed a thoughtful and meaningful rendition of his short, 13-year history as a Fort Plain Central School student. Bowley spoke of the bonds that develop between classmates and their teachers, parents and friends; of remembering the past with an eye toward the future. He cautioned his classmates to be wary of the unknowns of the future and advised that "we must all be prepared for the challenges we will face." He noted that if, in the future he has a problem or is feeling "stressed out, I can think of my years at Fort Plain and all my friends and that should be enough to brighten my day."

2. The "invocation" and not "innovation" was delivered by Rebecca Ann Dingman, which was followed by the Pledge to the Flag, led by John Joseph Greco.
