Wednesday, July 23, 2014 - Updated: 8:51 PM

-- Fire dept. to test alarm system starting July 28

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- The St. Johnsville Fire Department will be testing a weather warning system on three consecutive Mondays beginning July 28 at 6:15 p.m. Residents will hear an alarm sound in the village on July 28, Aug. 4 and Aug. 11, followed by a public address message.

St. Johnsville Mayor Bernard Barnes said, "it's just a test to see if the system works. We don't want anyone to become alarmed. It's to help us test our preparedness for an emergency.

With many people living at the RV park at the St. Johnsville Marina during the summer, the village will open the Waste Water Treatment Plant to campers in the event of extreme weather.

CANAJOHARIE -- The Canajoharie Fire Department will be performing tests of its Severe Weather Warning System beginning Tuesday, July 29 at 6:45 p.m., then again a week later, on August 5 at 6:45 p.m., with the final test taking place on Aug. 12 at 6:45 p.m.

The severe weather siren will be followed by a public address message.  Residents are asked not to panic. These tests are to ensure that the system is working in the event of a real emergency.

In the event that this system is activated during an emergency, all residents are asked to seek shelter until it has passed. The Canajoharie Fire Department will assess the damage and advise the residents via any of the following: public address system, media, and the county hyper reach system.
