CANAJOHARIE — The third Music on Mainstreet concert of the season, featuring The Brian Patneaude Quartet, was a lively affair. Although Tuesday’s spotty patches of rain threatened to relocate or ruin the event all day, the rain that continued into the early evening had a positive effect on Music on Mainstreet, cooling the air and providing a breezy climate for the downtown jazz performance.

The The Brian Patneaude Quartet, formed in 2002, performed instrumental jazz selections, the harmonic textures often creating a beautiful lulling effect.

The Canajoharie Community Youth Center provided snacks during the event, including brownie sundaes, with ice cream donated by Stewart’s Shops, raising money for their only summer program trip this year, a hike over Kane Mountain into Pine Lake Park, where attendees will enjoy a barbecue lunch.

CYC Director Dontay Fowler explained that the fundraiser is important for the group, as the proceeds raised from the sale of refreshments, and of earrings created by Fowler and the kids enrolled in the program, would pay for transportation, gas and food, allowing the kids a free, fun day out of town.

The CYC will also be raising money for the trip, to be held the final day of the summer recreation program, by holding a CYC Boiling Pot 5K on August 17. This is the first of what the center hopes to make an annual event, featuring a 5K run/walk and a free Kids Fun Run. The event will also feature music and food. It is open to all age groups, with awards provided to the top male and female finisher in each age group. T-shirts will be provided to the first 75 registrants. For more information about the event, and to register at a reduced cost before August 1, email race director Tim Shepard at Boiling-pot5K@yahoo.com, or contact the CYC directly at (518) 673-5117.

Of the CYC, Fowler stated, “I hope the community recognizes that we’re still existing, and they continue to help donate and support our cause.”
