Barbara Spraker dies at 89

Tuesday, August 26, 2014 - Updated: 10:33 AM

Montgomery County has lost one of its cornerstones.

Barbara V. Spraker of Canajoharie — a woman whose love of and devotion to her community and her county was reflected in the decades she spent serving it and promoting it — died Monday. She was 89.

Spraker was the catalyst behind Montgomery County’s bicycle path. To this day, the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce every year hands out the Barbara V. Spraker Tourism Award. In 2002 she was named the Citizen of the Year for the Mohawk Valley.

Her list of accomplishments and her contributions to her corner of the Mohawk Valley is unrivaled.
