FORT PLAIN — A local businessman is back in jail following a run-in with a TV news crew Friday afternoon. This time he’s being held without bail.

Fort Plain Police Chief Robert Thomas III on Friday confirmed that Dennis Todd, 62, of 24 Willett St., Fort Plain, was charged with felony reckless endangerment; criminal possession of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor; and harassment in connection with the incident, which was partially captured on tape by the WNYT News 13 videographer.

In the recording, members of the TV crew, whom Thomas said were following up on recent media reports, are seen approaching Todd after he exited the Fort Plain Police Station around 2:30 p.m. Friday. Todd is heard yelling for the newsmen to “get out of here” and seen charging the cameraman. At one point in the confrontation, it appears he threw a brick.

Thomas said the cameraman was not struck by the brick, “but it was very close.”

He said an officer responding to the scene reportedly saw Todd charge the newsmen and immediately took the businessman into custody. He was arrested without further incident and processed. Orders of protection were issued for the news crew.

Todd, the owner of a number of local commercial properties, had recently been released from the Montgomery County Jail on bond in connection with allegations that he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old male. Additionally, it’s alleged that he physically assaulted one of the child’s adult relatives by hitting him on the head with a baseball bat earlier this month.

Todd was arraigned before Minden Town Justice Susan Buddles on the most recent charges around 7:30 p.m. Friday night, at which time he was formally charged with the felony and one of the misdemeanor charges, she said.

A reporter present for the arraignment was asked to leave the courtroom. Buddles later explained that Todd didn’t want anyone present, so she honored his request.

Todd, who is represented by Amsterdam Attorney Paul Wollman, was remanded to the Montgomery County Jail without bail.
