Going in circles

For the C-S-E

Many of us have certain colors or shapes we feel most comfortable with. Give me muted, rich or earthy colors and I feel good. And you can keep the straight lines and squares. Circles and spheres soothe me. Take the sun and the moon, night and day, stories that come full-circle, the seasons, turkey buzzards, hummingbirds and monarchs arriving and leaving in cycle.

If I could sing I would sound like Julie Andrews about now.

The library has in its new additions. Take for instance our favorite circle of comfort — Southern Biscuits. This cookbook is a must read, what with stew season ahead. If Kahlil Gibran was correct in stating that “In our beginning is our end” then Do It Well-Make It Fun is a must read for the time in-between. And as for my favorite sphere — Planet Earth as You’ve Never Seen It Before. The photography is out of this world.

The Fall Story Hour has begun. Facilitated by Joanne Resch and Whitney Hubbard, this program is geared for ages 3-6.

Other free programs include:

Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m. — The Philo Cafe will resume on an every other week basis. Book discussion, How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent by Julia Alvarez will be held on Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m.

October 27 at 4 p.m., the library will host a family and children’s story hour, featuring ‘Halloween Stories: Fun and Fright (Just a little)’.

I have noticed that a lot of my classes have centered around circles and spheres; yoyos, bottle cap magnets, wreaths and lest we forget, beaded ornament covers to name a few. Well we’re in for another one on October 16 from 6-8 p.m. “Going in Circles” will produce a vintage Christmas ornament made from old Christmas cards. We will also have on hand a few other circle-related surprises. The public is invited to this free class.
