ST. JOHNSVILLE -- The St. Johnsville Chamber of Commerce, on Sunday evening, hosted the annual tree lighting ceremony in the park adjacent to the American Legion Morris J. Edwards Post 168, to which attendees adjourned following the outdoor activities for refreshments and to visit with Santa Claus, who was delivered via St. Johnsville Fire Department truck to the tune of attendees singing "Here Comes Santa Claus."

The park was incredibly full of attendees Sunday evening, most of whom gathered around a roaring bonfire to stay warm while first hearing a story by MRML Director Dawn Lamphere, then moving on to candle-lit caroling, led by St. Johnsville Central School graduate Laura Wozniak.

Free horse and wagon rides were provided throughout the event.

Santa Claus, after exiting the fire department vehicle, took a moment to visit with attendees, who quickly packed the American Legion to get good spot in line in anticipation of his arrival.

The village tree was decorated on Monday by Denise LaCoppola, DPW employee Chris Walters and two additional DPW employees. The tall tree required an extending bucket to complete the decorating process, which took about 3.5 hours. During Sunday's tree lighting, Mayor Bernard Barnes first thanked attendees for coming, stating, "Good evening folks! On behalf of the village, I'd like to welcome everyone here for the Christmas Tree Lighting," then thanking the decorators for doing a fine job before he did the honors of lighting the colorful tree.
