Florto R. (Floyd) (Fats) Salvagni
September 19, 2012

Florto R. (Floyd) (Fats) Salvagni, 95, a long time St. Johnsville resident passed away on Wednesday September 19, 2012 with his loving family by his side.
He was born August 11, 1917 in Maenza, Italy the son of the late Paolo & Adelaesia Salvagni. Florto came to America with his family at the age of five in 1922 and was educated in St. Johnsville schools.
His marriage to Esther Balderston took place on June 16, 1946 at St. Mary’s Church in Little Falls. The couple shared a blessed union of 50 years until her passing on May 4, 1996.
Mr. Salvagni was a World War II Army veteran, enlisting on April 4, 1941 and was honorably discharged on September 14, 1945 with the rank of PFC. While serving his country he served in the Big Red 1 Unit, also was deployed in the invasion of Normandy and received the following medals, American Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, European – African – Middle Eastern Service Medal with Bronze Service Arrowhead, and Good Conduct Medal.
Fats was the owner and operator of Floyd’s Barber Shop in Fort Plain for 49 years and worked for 10 years, at Ideal Hair Fashions in St. Johnsville with his daughter, Barbara.
Floyd was a member of the Fort Plain VFW Post # 3275, and a    member of the St. Johnsville American Legion Post # 168 and was an avid golfer and in his leisure he enjoyed watching a variety of school sporting activities.
Survivors include his son, Robert Salvagni and wife Carol of Herkimer, two daughters, Barbara Stagliano and husband Dominick of St. Johnsville and Mary Ann Jones and husband Gary of St. Johnsville, a brother, Rudy Salvagni and wife Rose of Canajoharie, his loving grandchildren, Steven and Elizabeth Stagliano, Emily and Mark Snell, Jennifer Salvagni, Jason and Jessica Salvagni, and Jonathon Salvagni, Gregory and Michele Jones and Sarah and Tim Barnes, 7 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Helen Balderston of Little Falls, NY, several nieces, nephews and a cousin, Laura Fontana of St. Johnsville, and Kim Snell of St. Johnsville who was like his third daughter.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Lola Lisa and his brothers, Louis and John Salvagni.
Funeral services were held on Saturday September 22, 2012 at 8:45 am from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY 568-7040, and at 9:30 am from Holy Family Parish, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Reverend Thomas Lawless, pastor.
Burial followed at St. Johnsville Cemetery.
Friends and relatives called at the funeral home on Friday September 21, 2012 from 5-8 pm.

Kay B. Grimm
September 24, 2012

Kay B. Grimm, 81, of Sprakers, N.Y., passed away on Monday, September 24, 2012.  
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Kay was born in Sprakers, N.Y., on March 12, 1931 to the late William Fred Pitcher and Kathryn-Harbster-Pitcher.  
In 1949 she was united in marriage to the late Carl Grimm Jr.  
Kay worked at the Beach Nut Plant, and co-owned her own grocery store Grimm’s Grocery in Sprakers.  
Kay was a graduate of Canajoharie High School.   
She spent many years of her life as a homemaker who loved her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  
Kay was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening, spending time      outdoors, and loved to cook. She enjoyed watching sports on              television and even played basketball through her younger years.
Kay is survived by her daughters; Kathy (Larry) Craver, and Tracy (Allert) Grimm, brother; Paul Pitcher, sister; Deyetta Maguire, grandchildren; Scott (Nicole) Craver, Derrick (Nicole) Craver, Carl Brown-Grimm, Will Brown-Grimm, great grandchildren; Tallon Craver, Mallory Craver, Willow Craver, and Zellen Craver.  
She was predeceased by her husband; Carl Grimm Jr., parents; William Fred Pitcher and Kathryn Harbster-Pitcher.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Lenz and Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie, N.Y., 13317.  
There will be a calling period from 12:00-2:00 prior to the funeral services at the funeral home.  All services will end at the funeral home.  
The family of Kay asks that donations be made to Sprakers Reformed Church, Sprakers, N.Y., 12166, and Rural Grove Vol. Fire Department 1192, State Highway 162, Sprakers, N.Y., 12166.

Victoria H. Wilkinson
September 19, 2012

Mrs. Victoria H. Wilkinson, 96, formerly of Fort Plain, New York died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Jewish Home of Rochester, NY.
Born on March 21, 1916 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Shaheen Hage and Jamilia Daou Hage. Mrs. Wilkinson was a          graduate of Fort Plain High School, class of 1934 where she            completed four years of high school in three years, graduating with honors. She then graduated as an honor student from the Royal Academy of Cosmeticians, Schenectady, NY on December 14, 1946. She was a resident of the Fort Plain area most of her life, spending a brief period of time in Amsterdam and Canajoharie at Arkell Hall before making her final move to Rochester.
Mrs. Wilkinson was the owner and operator of Hilltop Beauty Salon on Clyde Street in Fort Plain for over 21 years from 1948-69.
She was a Maronite Catholic and a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She was a sodalist for the 3rd Order Franciscan and a member of the Alter Rosary Society for Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She was a tireless advocate on behalf of children, the unborn and religious education.
Mrs. Wilkinson enjoyed crocheting, lace work and altering clothes for various Churches and the Auriesville Shrine.
On June 15, 1936, Victoria was married to Mr. Bargey C. Wilkinson. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1985. She was also             predeceased by her daughter, Amelia Fahy; brothers, Peter S. Hage, Sasen Hage; sister, Mary Nessle.
Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by her daughters, Elaine Waldman and her husband Dr. Richard Waldman of Syracuse, NY, Mary Beth Quandt and her husband Christopher Quandt of Rochester, NY; sister, Sally D’Arcangelis of Fort Plain, NY; brother, George Hage of MO; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service was held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 9:15am at the Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. A Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial followed at 10:00am on Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY with Father Dennis Murphy officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Sandra J. Quill
September 23, 2012

Sandra J. Quill, 71, of State Highway 30A, Town of Charleston, NYpassed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning at her home.
Born August 12, 1941 in Charleston, New York, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Frieda Montayne Bowdish. She lived most of her life in the Town of Charleston and was a graduate of the Fonda- Fultonville High School.
Sandra worked for the Kassen & Keller Company in Fonda shortly after her graduation and she went on to raise a wonderful family. She was a devoted homemaker, loved to cook and you could never just stop by her home without being fed with some of the most wonderful home cooking.
On May 7, 1960 she married Frank M. Quill. Besides being survived by her husband of 51 years of marriage, she is survived by three sons, Patrick Allen Quill (Patti) and their children Stephanie (Quill) Miller and her daughter Savannah (great grandchild), Kyle Quill, Emily Quill and Joshua Quill; a son, Paul James Quill (Beth) and their children, Lindsay Quill, Mathew Quill, Nicholas Bandy, Alley Pokrywka and Kate (Pokrywka) Becker (Tanner); a son Joseph Frank Quill (Robbien) and their children Nicholas Quill and Melanie Quill; five siblings, John Bowdish (Vicky), Silvia (Bowdish) Wojick (Merril), Floyd Bowdish (Dorothy), Marlene (Bowdish) Smith (Lee) and George Bowdish (Debbie); and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sandra was predeceased by a sister, Nancy (Bowdish) Keyfauver.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, with the Pastor Kenneth Dingman and Sandra’s son Patrick Quill officiating.
Graveside service and burial will take place in the Esperance Cemetery. Family will receive friends and loved ones at Jim’s Irish Harbour banquet room in Canajoharie NY for a meal and to celebrate Sandra’s life, following graveside service.

Louise M. Prime
September 22, 2012

Mrs. Louise M. Prime, 91, of Maple Ave., Canajoharie, New York died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home.
Born on November 5, 1920 in Canajoharie, NY, she was the daughter of Charles Mingst and Bertha McFee Mingst.  She was educated in Canajoharie Schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Prime was employed at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie for 19 years, retiring from the Strained Foods Department.
She was a member of St. John’s & St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Canajoharie.
Mrs. Prime was a member of the Smith-Schultz American Legion Post #222 Ladies Auxiliary and the Canajoharie Senior Citizens. She was an avid golfer and card player at Arkell Center in Canajoharie.
On August 9, 1947 in Canajoharie, NY, Louise was married to Alton J. Prime. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Mrs. Prime is predeceased by her aunt, Bernice Westerman.
She is survived by her husband, Alton J. Prime of Canajoharie, NY and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 10:00am at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Pastor Zach Labagh officiating.  
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 5:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.  
Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
