Montgomery County Court

• Peggy Compton, 44, of 24 Hancock St., Fort Plain, was sentenced Monday to five years of probation, 150 hours of community service, and ordered to pay $4,783 in restitution to the county for taking welfare benefits she was not entitled to.

Compton pleaded guilty to third-degree welfare fraud on June 22. She took benefits exceeding $4,000 between March 2011 and August 2011.

Compton was also disqualified from receiving any social services for the next six months.

Investigators with the county’s welfare fraud unit said Compton submitted false information on her temporary assistance and food stamp applications.

• Richard A. Burke, 53, of 6310 Route 10, Canajoharie, pleaded guilty Friday to fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was adjourned until Oct. 1. He’s expected to receive two years in state prison and ordered to pay $90 in restitution.

The incident, which involved Hydrocodone, took place Nov. 10, 2011 in the town of Canajoharie. Burke was arrested March 14 after a five-month long investigation into the sale of prescription narcotics, reports say.

Additionally, the sheriff’s office and the Fort Plain Police Department last week said Burke was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in conjunction with a six-month-long upcounty drug sale investigation.

Dygert was issued a ticket for owning an unlicensed dog after an investigation into the animal biting an adult. He is to appear in the Town of Minden Town Court at a later date.

• William A. Logan, 17, of 55 Wheelock St., Canajoharie, was arrested on July 30, charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor; and loitering, a violation.

Logan was stopped skateboarding in the street, preventing traffic from passing. While being interviewed, he resisted arrest. He was taken into custody without incident and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after arraignment.
