CANAJOHARIE — East Hill Elementary School third graders, in Mrs. Giarrizzo and Mrs. Schwabrow’s classes, recently created an example of a synopsis of Ronald Dahl’s “The BFG”, utilizing a numbered key that replaces regular words with creative, invented words. The number, in parenthesis, follows the word that should be replaced.

At East Hill School, a whoppsy (1) monstrous giant has gobblefunked (2) Mrs. Schwabrow’s and Mrs. Giarrizzo’s class.

It was a dark, dark night at the norphanage (3). It was the witching-hour and every norphan (4) was asleep except for Sophie. Sophie, a norphan, was kidsnatched (5) by a giant. She was carried away by the giant to his cave. The giant and a nervous Sophie have a babblement (6) about giants eating people.

Will the poor norphan, Sophie, succeed in escaping the enormous giant or will she be swalloped (7) up by giants and come to an ucky-mucky (8) end?

Mrs. Giarrizzo and Mrs. Schwabrow’s class will have to find out by reading the rest of The BFG by Roald Dahl.

Word Key: 1.Whoppsy — really; 2. Gobblefunk — change; 3. .Norphanage — orphanage; 4. .Norphan — orphan; 5. .Kidsnatched — kidnapped; 6. .Babblement — conversation; 7. Swalloped — swallowed. 8. Ucky-mucky — nasty
