Lady Hilltopper junior varsity finishes season undefeated

FORT PLAIN — Undefeated, the Junior Varsity Lady Hilltoppers finished the 2010-2011 basketball season 16-0 in the Northern WAC division.

Beginning the season with a first place win in the 2010 Fort Plain Girls Tip-Off Tourney, the team proceeded to win with a score of 54-8 in the first round against Poland and then fought hard to come back from an eight point deficit in the third quarter to beat BKW for the championship with a final score of 36-35.

This young JV team has a lot of talent. The two high scorers for the team, Abigail Boyer with 272 points for the season (an average of 17 points per game), and Haley Kilmartin with 211 points for the season (an average of 13 points per game), are both freshman.

Two of the other starters on the team are also young. Vicky Dettmer, an eighth grade student, and Kendra Trembley, a seventh grade student, both brought a lot of energy and skill to the team. Rounding out the starting lineup is Lacey Brock, a junior, who started the season late due to an ankle injury from her volleyball season.

Together, the team worked well to create positive energy that carried them through most of their games.

From the bench, Serena Soto (tenth grade) and Shawna Cotton (ninth grade) were solid at the guard and post positions, respectively. Integral to the team, two more ninth graders, Amber Weaver and Josie Jackson, both hustled to keep the momentum going each and every time they were in the game.

Coached by Lisa Trembley, this young team played some very strong opponents, but they were able to maintain their composure and work together to secure the victories they desired.

With a total of 795 points for their regular game season, the team averaged 49.68 points per game against their opponents, who totaled 378 points with an average of 23.63 points per game.
