Working together toward 2013

To the editor:

Hundreds of Fort Plain residents and people from neighboring communities celebrated Last Night 2012 with food, entertainment and song. The many diverse festivities around the community welcomed in the New Year 2013.

It was a wonderful evening and thanks to many are in order including the Fort Plain Central School, The Friends of Fort Plain, The Fort Plain Museum, the Senior Center, the Elks, the VFW, the Reformed Church, the Fort Plain Free Library, Unity Hall, Fort Plain True Value and The Ayres House.

Also the area businesses that helped by providing specialized services — we thank you for your efforts that contributed toward making Last Night a resounding success.

We, of course, also wish to thank the Fort Plain Police Department, the Fort Plain Fire Department and the department of Public Works for tending to everyone’s safety. A special thank you to The Lettering Company for their work to modify the Mayan sun that descended from the aerial ladder truck to signify the official start of 2013.

Thanks to all the entertainers who made this evening so very special. Each venue was well supported by the public, and your participation was an integral part of these festivities. The support of the planning committee and the many volunteers was paramount, and the community thanks you.

Thank you to Ted Ardnt for getting the youth groups active in the celebration with the broomstick hockey games and the continuous music at the firehouse. It was wonderful to see so many people, especially the teenagers, enjoying the evening and the sense of pride in our community.

Lastly, our gratitude extends to the hundreds of friends and neighbors who embraced our initial Last Night celebration. You wore your warmest coats and pulled on your mittens and winter boots to welcome the New Year. You repaid our efforts with your smiles and laughter.

Our best wishes to everyone for a Happy New Year.
