ST. JOHNSVILLE -- On Saturday, an afternoon coronation was held at OESJ High School to celebrate the first prom since the Oppenheim-Ephratah and St. Johnsville school districts merged, after which the prom's 84 attendees were whisked away to the Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Water Park for an evening of dinner, dancing, sparkling, and splashing.

The OESJ juniors and seniors began planning for this year's prom in January, first choosing a theme -- Glitz and Glamour, which had many of the female attendees decking their dresses out with multi colored rhinestones and jewels -- and then choosing a venue and executing a set to pose under during coronation.

The set, designed by Erica Fitzpatrick, was then created by the district's agriculture and technology classes, with about eight kids coming after school to help build and paint it, then adding silver glitter to make the whole thing shine.

Money was raised throughout this school year for the prom through a Yankee Candle sale and an Easter dinner and raffle, to which 40 kids sold tickets. Both the junior and senior classes contributed to Saturday's prom, raising about $3,500 to cover expenses.

This year, the prom was completely contained in the Lake George facility where students chose to celebrate, beginning with dinner consisting of chicken marsala, lasagna, penne, a salad bar, and a sundae bar, followed by dancing. Entertainment was provided by Pure Entertainment. Following the prom, a Post Prom Party was held in the facility's water park.
