Fort Plain tosses no-hitter in rout

GALWAY – Marcus Failing and Dylan Pechtel combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter, and the Fort Plain offense roared to life in powering to a 24-0 win over Galway in Western Athletic Conference baseball action Thursday, April 21.
While Failing and Beck kept the Golden Eagles off the board, Jack Ray and Ashton Parker each homered for the Hilltoppers (5-1, 4-1 WAC North), who have outscored their opponents 68-2 in their last four games.
Harold Dettmer had a double, two singles and four RBI, Brent Baker and Pechtel each added two singles and a double and Chris Hanifin clubbed a double as part of a two-hit game.
At the completion of this game, the Hilltoppers had so far won five straight since a season-opening 5-2 loss to Schoharie.

Baker, ‘Toppers blank Mayfield

FORT PLAIN – Brent Baker tossed a complete game two-hit shutout and doubled up his opposition with four hits of his own as the Fort Plain Hilltoppers rolled to their sixth straight win, beating Mayfield 9-0 in WAC North baseball action Friday at Phillips’ Field.
Baker struck out six and walked just two in his complete game, and did plenty to help his own cause at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, two runs batter in and two runs scored for the Toppers (6-1, 5-1 WAC North).
Jabin Weaver added a double, three RBI and two runs scored for Fort Plain, which has won six straight – outscoring its opponents 88-10 in the process.
Harold Dettmer ripped a triple and scored a run for the Hilltoppers, while Ashton Parker went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Chris Hanifin and Dylan Pechtel each knocked in runs as part of Fort Plain’s 13-hit attack.

Mayfield 8, Fort Plain 4
Whitney Ostrander belted a grand slam and Ashlee Frazier pitched a complete game to pick up the win as the Lady Panthers used a five-run third inning to top Fort Plain.
Frazier struck out 11 and held Fort Plain to just five hits over seven innings for the Lady Panthers.
Logan went the distance on the mound for the Lady Hilltoppers (2-4), racking up 11 strikeouts.
