Title: Settlement Reached for Dancers Featured in Lizzo’s Love, Lizzo Documentary
In a recent development surrounding Lizzo’s highly anticipated 2022 documentary, Love, Lizzo, it has been reported that a settlement has been reached with 14 dancers who worked with the Grammy-winning artist. The dispute stemmed from a five-minute clip in the documentary that featured intimate footage of the dancers, which they claim was used without their consent.
The dancers’ manager brought the issue to the attention of an attorney, stating that the dancers had not given their consent for the filming and were not compensated for the use of the footage. The contentious clip was recorded during rehearsals for the MTV Video Music Awards in 2019. Shockingly, the dancers were only informed that the documentary would include behind-the-scenes footage after it had already been filmed.
In order to resolve the dispute, a settlement was reached for a total sum of $109,551. Each dancer received between $7,092 and $7,545. However, the settlement includes a nondisparagement and confidentiality clause, prohibiting the dancers from discussing the terms publicly.
It should be noted that these particular dancers were not involved in the recent lawsuit against Lizzo, her production company, and dance captain Shirlene Quigley. The lawsuit accuses Lizzo of sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment, and body shaming a dancer. Additionally, Quigley has been accused of religious harassment and making sexually inappropriate comments.
Two plaintiffs in the lawsuit claim that they were pressured to touch a dancer’s breast against their will during a night out in Amsterdam. Lizzo vehemently denies these allegations, emphasizing her commitment to respecting women and referring to her own experiences with body shaming.
While the settlement with the 14 dancers related to the Love, Lizzo documentary has been reached, the controversy surrounding the lawsuit continues to garner attention. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the music industry and the treatment of artists, dancers, and crew members going forward.
As the public eagerly awaits the release of Love, Lizzo, these legal developments shed light on the complex dynamics behind the making of a highly anticipated documentary and underscore the importance of consent and fair treatment in the entertainment industry.
