Title: Real Kosher Recalls Ice Cream Cups Due to Listeria Contamination
New York-based frozen food company, Real Kosher, has issued a recall of its 8-ounce ice cream cups after a potential contamination with listeria was discovered. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has initiated an investigation into the ice cream product.
The recall comes in response to two reported cases of individuals falling ill and requiring hospitalization in New York and Pennsylvania after consuming the ice cream. As a precautionary measure, Real Kosher has immediately halted production of the ice cream while the FDA completes its investigation.
Real Kosher has reassured consumers that its other products remain safe for consumption. However, the specific ice cream flavors affected by the recall include Vanilla Chocolate, Razzle, Caramel, Parve Vanilla Chocolate, Sorbet Strawberry Mango, and Lite Peanut Butter.
The company’s ice cream, branded as Soft Serve On The Go, has been distributed to various locations such as canteens, grocery stores, convenience stores, schools, nursing homes, and camps. It has also been sold internationally in Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and the UK.
The recalled ice cream was sold in 19 states across the United States, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
The recall was initiated after the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture conducted tests and found listeria contamination in the ice cream. Listeria is a bacterial infection that can cause severe illness, particularly in vulnerable populations.
Symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by listeria, include high fever, severe headache, stomach pain, and it can even lead to miscarriages and stillbirths. Customers who have purchased the recalled ice cream are advised to discard it or return it to the place of purchase.
Retailers have been instructed to count the number of cups they have and dispose of all of them, and then inform Real Kosher for a refund.
Customers seeking further information or with any questions regarding the recall are encouraged to contact Real Kosher directly for assistance.
The recall serves as a reminder for consumers to always stay vigilant and informed about potential food safety issues, particularly when it comes to products that can pose health risks if contaminated.
